Do you think a contest restricted to Marco Rubio, Paul Ryan, Jeb Bush, and Rand Paul will be nearly as much fun as the last one? primary contest that won’t feature Bachmann, Rick Perry, or Herman Cain. Think for a moment about the grim prospect of a 2016 G.O.P. No, what’s really worrying is what’s going to happen to this country (and its journalists) when we no longer have great leaders like Bachmann and Sarah Palin to lead the fight against Obamacare, public schools, East Coast élitists, and misguided atheists on the road to damnation. Global warming: “There isn’t even one study that can be produced that shows that carbon dioxide is a harmful gas.” Joblessness: “If we took away the minimum wage…we could potentially virtually wipe out unemployment.” Sexism in the home and workplace: “The Lord says, ‘Be submissive wives you are to be submissive to your husbands.’ ” On those non-issues, Bachmann has already set our minds to rest. The nation needs protecting, there’s no doubt about that-though not from many of the things that might worry you. After insisting that she wasn’t scared of losing her seat in next year’s midterms, or of an ongoing ethics probe into her 2012 Presidential campaign, the Boadicea of the Great Plains left the door open to an eventual return to politics, saying, “There is no future option or opportunity, be it directly in the political arena or otherwise, that I won’t be giving serious consideration if it can help save and protect our great nation.” ![]() Part of her says she is: “After serious consideration, I am confident that this is the right decision.” But part of her seems to be having second thoughts.
